We had a lot to talk about at this meeting! As we wrap up the school year, we discussed how we did this year, as well as our goals for next year. Thanks to everyone who participated!

 

FOJ Meeting Minutes – 4/18/2018 @ 5:30pm

President Andy Hinds led the meeting. Representatives from the school staff present were Erin Leavitt and Emily Merchant.

Homebrew Fest Debrief – Geena

  • Event netted $5900 in profit. Tables and tents were a large, last minute expense
  • Event ran smoothly. Higher number of day-of sales. Sold approximately half of available tickets.
  • Items for next year to improve: more bathrooms, more organized cleanup after event, place to dump trash, no silent auction with the event? Discussion about having a silent auction in connection with an Art Night event at the school instead and gear it towards Jefferson families. Look at ways to improve the pitch/planning in soliciting businesses for donation items.

Fundraising Update – Andy

  • Painting and Pints – very popular, sold out. Made $800.
  • Snooze – made $1400.
  • Upcoming fundraisers – May 24: buy food at Chipotle in Mission Valley and mention Jefferson. Portion of sales goes to school. Reminder to shop Amazon Smile, portion of sales will go to FOJ.

After-School Club Update – Ms. Merchant

  • Would like to offer free Lego/STEAM/engineering clubs to be available to all students. FOJ to help pay for this
  • Results of parent survey – parents are willing to pay for clubs. Prefer 1-2 days/week
  • Would like a parent next year to help organize clubs/get students where they need to be, etc.

Budget Update – Thao

  • Projected end of year balance is $59,743. Biggest fundraiser is Jog-a-thon.
  • Projected 2018-2019 expenses are: Gardening $20K. Art Reach $24K (this would double Art Reach instruction provided during 2017-2018). Clubs $3K. Miscellaneous $2K. Total: $49K.
  • Fundraising goals for next year – increase Jog-a-thon to $30K. Art Walk fundraiser at the school, near the end of school year (first Friday of June?) to showcase students’ art, silent auction. Involvement by Art Reach to run art stations at event?

Prepare for Board Member Elections

  • Procedure – Current board nominates people for positions.
  • New Positions/Duties floated – Club Liaison, Corporate/Community Outreach (fundraising), Social Media.
